Bra talk

So a few days ago, I learned (from some online friends) something I don’t think I ever knew about bras before. Or maybe I did know, and I forgot it? Anyways…what I learned is:

The center of the bra is supposed to be between your breasts, right against your breastbone…not “floating” along your breastline. There should be no gap between the skin between your breasts and the bra.

After I learned this, I tried on my stash and discovered that all but one of my  bras are floaters. That means the cups are too small. I kinda knew that actually, since I have noticed that I need to sometimes adjust to get rid of the “double” look. I actually have one bra that my nipple tends to creep out of. I have been ignoring this issue. I read that 80% of women wear the wrong bra size. I guess I am was one of them.

Every since I found out my bras have been fitting wrong, I have been obsessed with it. Yesterday was the first day I was well enough to go out, so I went the the plus size store I usually buy my bras at (Addition Elle, pretty larger bras with good support…not too pricey either, and they have band sizes small enough to fit those with large breasts that are not “plus sized” ) to try on some other styles. Of course, none of them fit right…damn floating, and I already wear their largest cup size.

Today, I hit my local specialty bra store, Judy’s Lingerie. I got fitted and actually measured one cup size up from what I have been wearing. I bought two bras. I spent…umm…a lot of money. They are both relatively pretty, beige and black. I will have to re-build  my collection slowly it seems.  Two good fitting bras, one black and one beige, can do me for a while though.

I have always beeen picky with my bras (I HATE drooping, and  like them to stand up well…minimizing is not for me, makes my tummy look bigger!) and always felt well supported, and like I looked good in the ones I had.  I must say though, I really can see and  feel a difference in these bras!

Here are the two I bought, as suggestions for any other girls with…um…girls.

WOW! I had no idea! I am ashamed at my “bra ignorance”! I just know what looks pretty! LOL! They’ve actually got some “bra clinics” here on the island at some of the stores that sell women’s clothing and lingerie. My MIL has been to a bra clinic but I haven’t. I suppose I should and properly be aware of the do’s and don’ts when purchasing a bra (or as a friend of mine calls them: an over the shoulder bolder holder).

    Thanks for the informative post!

you can look on ebay for the same bras that you were fitted for and get for cheaper. that way you pay like $100+ for one and like maybe $50 for a 2nd

I so need to get some new bras. I don’t have the band problem, but I don’t fill out the cups all the way.

Can you believe I thought I was a 38 D? Turns out I was a 34 F (now). When I was nursing I was up in the G and H area. It made a world of difference when I have the right bra on.

Now the problem is finding a 34 F. I have had good luck with Figleaves.com. They were having a sale, but I dont know if it is still going on. I need that beige bra to hide my back fat. I think I should go to a bigger size becuase it looks like I have some boobs on my back, but when I do I sag and have that floating thing. I guess I just need to lose weight.

I am afraid I have lots of “floating” going on and my straps are constantly falling down. As soon as I get some extra cash, I need to go get me some new ones that truly fit.

this post inspired me to go and get some new bras but when i saw the D and DD I just couldn’t even try them on…i couldn;’t do it…(i wore B and C before nursing). I think i’ll wait until i’m done nursing %100 so i know i’ll get some milage out of the bras (otherwise the size may change drastically again and anything new will be useless)

My old bras are so small on me when i take them off there is a complete imprint of the bra around my back, shoulders and boobs…still wearing the same 4 nursing bras UGH!!

Oh no Dina, a D? Horrors LOL!

Actually I read in one of the articles that D and DD isn’t even really big, about 50% or women, if wearing a properly fitted bra, are a D or larger.

I spent years in DD denial. I wore Ds for years, even though I knew they were a bit too small and I was popping out of them and getting imprints. After I had the girl, I could no longer deny that I was NOT a D…and even though I am back to my wedding weight, I have never been able to get back into a D size bra!

Now, I am wearing my well fitting Fs with pride! People pay thousands to have what nature gave me (a bit firmer, granted!).
