My long-term readers and real life friends will know that I have been loyal to the CHI Flatiron for years now. They last about 1 year each (just after the warranty expires), and everytime one dies, I try an (cheaper) alternative, then return it to buy the beloved CHI since nothing else has lived up to my expectations.
Until now.
A few weeks ago, my CHI died. I bought a GHD on craigslist, and it was fake. In case you are curious, do not EVER buy a $300 flatiron for $90 from a guy that meets you in an apartment building lobby. That is all I will say about that. It is just too embarrassing.
The fake iron was actually not bad, but I was terrified that the fakeness of it would also mean it is cheaply made, and that it would burn my house down. SO off the Trade Secrets I went, to buy another CHI.
The sales person convinced me to try the Avanti Ultra Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron, on sale for $70. So I bought it, knowing it would be returned the next day, when I would shell out another $100 to upgrade to the CHI.
Well, I didn’t have to. The Avanti is awesome. Straightens as well (or maybe even better) than the CHI, at a fraction the price. Also has a 2 year warranty to CHIs one year
IN OTHER NEWS:
1. Here is the girl on her way to a birthday party yesterday. 6 going on 16, to be cliche:

2. My new TV series is Dollhouse. Love it. Harper’s Island is also so evil it is awesome!

So…what do you think of the FHIs? (I think that’s what they’re called)

Hi there! hope all is well with you! I have had my pink CHI flatiron for nearly 3 years now. I am so happy that I am finally using it again. My husband bought it for me as a Christmas gift – he bought it from my hairstylist who gets a discount so it was about $90 instead of $120. Since I pretty much used it every day for nearly 2 years, it paid for itself. i really really like my flat iron!
After I lost my hair to chemo last summer, I was bummed because I actually missed flat ironing my hair. Now, my pixie is growing out and I can’t wait to have the rocker chick hairdo I once had. Ironically the flatiron is pink (for breast cancer) which is what I ended up having (and no longer have, thank goodness!)

Michelle, I have never used a Fhi. They do get good reviews though, comperable to the CHI I believe.
Thanx Karen! I’ll try to do more in the coming months, as I get back on “yummy mommy” track LOL!
CC, that is great that your CHI lived so long. I have never had one make it past a year, but I really use and abuse mine. It is totally worth it to pay for a high quailty iron, as it does pay for itself in time and money trying to make your hair look good without it.
I am so glad to hear that you are cancer free and your hair is coming back!! I had one of the pink irons as well…I usually buy anything I can in the “% of sales go to BC pink” if it is an option.
