anything different here?

how about here?

Yup, earrings! Finally!

When she was 4, I told her she could get it done whenever she was ready. For 2 years she said she would NEVER do it, was scared it would hurt. Fine.

Yesterday at dinner she announced she wanted to. So today we did it! She was awesome;  got a bit scared at the last second, but went through with it…then when they pierced she gave one big OUCH and than announced that it wasn’t so bad. She looks so cute and I am so proud of her. We already had plans (and a baby on my back!) so we could not make it a whole special mommy-daughter day like I had always thought it would be, but we did get smoothies on the way to my friend’s place.

It is funny, whenever I tell people I don’t pierce babies ears and wait until they are over 4 and ask, and that my 6 year old wont do it and says she never will…they think it is a reason to do ears when babes are too young to refuse and are  surprised I did not do otherwise with the baby because of my experience with the girl, but whatever! I don’t agree…but I was starting to wonder if my girl ever would do it. I have multiple piercings and love earrings, so even though I was okay with her never doing it, it would be a  tad disappointing.

I am so glad I waited. It was a sweet special day for my daughter and I, and the excitement and pride she felt well outweighed the pain. I actually got mine done at 6 as well. I remember how special it was to pick out earrings and have all my friends and family complimenting me for days, and how proud i was. I don’t remember the pain. I am glad I gave my DD the same experience and she will have the same memories!

The time came afterall! yeah!!

p.s. sorry for the crap pictures, i could not get a clear picture if my life depended on it!

Fun! Maci doesn’t have hers done yet. But she’s never asked to get them done. I got mine when I was 9 and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was super excited about it.

I didn’t get mine done until I was 12 years old and my mom made sure I could take care of them myself. Amber has asked, but has been happy with the clip ons she got when my grandmother died.

I just have a feeling the tiny earrings would end up like the many hair accessories, all over the place and always missing. I think I will continue to wait until she is older, maybe to distract her from other more expensive things. :)

The girl does look very pretty with them.

hi there! i think it’s great that you let your daughter choose when she could get her ears pierced. my daughter is 8 (will be 9 in august) and she still doesn’t have pierced ears. I told her she could make the decision herself. i couldn’t bring myself to have it done when she was a baby. she is leaning more towards not getting her ears pierced, but you know, kids….they are always changing their minds.

I think you did the right thing letting her ask to have them done. I think earrings on babies is gross and would never ever do it.
The other day though some lady TOTAL STRANGER stopped me in a store and asked me how old M was. I told her almost 1- well this lady started YELLING at me that I should get her ears pierced immediately and if I wait she will never get it done. She went on to say that babies won’t feel it and it is so cute etc… I was stunned/shocked and completely speechless- i had never seen this person before inmy life and she took it upon herself to give me a lecture on ear piercing..sheesh!!

ANYWAY- her ears look super pretty- and she is now old enough to take care of them herself, turn them and apply alcohol daily (do they still do that???)
I got mine done in grade 4…i guess that made me about 10?!?! also my choice!

Awwww! Hooray for her! That is awesome…and she does look so darn cute in earrings!!!

I was contemplating on whether or not to wait for Little One to be older to get her ears pierced. I’ve been getting lots of pressure from aunts and friends about when I’m getting the baby’s ears pierced. Many have said, “Get them done when she’s 6 months old” or “If you get it done when she’s young, she won’t remember the pain”, and so on.

Hubby told me to let HER decide when she’s older if she’s ready and if she wants them done. Actually, he said, “It’s Little One’s decision to make”.

Thanks for posting this. What a great experience for her…and for you! What a sweet and special day indeed!
