The nursery, as promised

So I was kinda stupid yesterday, and finished the nursery myself! This involved  carrying a rocking chair and a swing upstairs, and pushing the very heavy dresser all over the room with my butt!  Don’t get mad…of course the man would have dragged the chair and swing up for me, and moved the dresser  (which was too heavy for me to move it  any other way but by pushing it with my butt) all over the room until I was happy…but he was at work, the girl was at school, and I was stuck at home alone in a snowstorm (I don’t even have boots that go up over my swollen calves) with a painted but disorganized almost empty nursery!

I am paying for it now though…my hips and lower back and thighs are all killing…not pregnancy pain, but over-exertion pain…and added to the pregnancy aches and pains, well, today has not been a good day!

I wish the exertion had put me into labour…but nope…just major pain!

Anyways, here is the room. As you can see, it is nothing fancy…just a basic baby’s room in a cute colour.  I dont use crib sets  (The bumpers and blankets are not safe anyways, and all matchy -matchy is NOT my thing) and  I am not into magazine worthy nurseries (of course I think they are cute, but not worth my effort or money since a baby is just as happy without it..and I am not a natural decorator) but I will add some more gender specific decorations after the baby comes.

Here are a couple different views of the room:

Yeah, I know the chair cushions does not match. We may buy new ones..but these have been used by the girl as well as all our neices, and the cheerful primary colours are kinda a tradition!

And the contents of the dresser:

The one area left that needs a little work (I don’t think the baby will need men’s dress shirts for a while, if ever):

and a picture of the girl’s room, with the cat in her usual position,  scheming to get to the fish:

Lastly, because I was bored and googled “nursery”,  some pictures of nurseries I would like, if I was motivated and talented enough to create them (or rich enough to pay someone else to do it!). I would not use the bumpers though, of course!

Happy November

Eh, I’ll try NaBloPoMo again (I skipped it last year, since we were in Disney World). A post a day for a month? I think I can handle that…though it would be easier if our 2000 computer wasn’t so darn slow (it can no longer do 2 things at once, and cannot display text as fast as I can type it). Yes, that’s right, 2000. We are the least techy people ever! We have tube TVs (and no, we aren’t just waiting for them to die before we get Plasma or LCD…we replaced both our TVs last year, with tube TVs), no IPODS, and were the last among everyone we know to get a DVD player (we used VHS until around 2004) and a digital camera. We are looking at getting a new computer though…as soon as the man and I figure out what we want and where to put it!

His (stupid) plan: To build a computer desk into half of his walk in closet and get a new PC. He has actually started. About 2 months ago his ripped apart half of said closet. He then, instead of building a desk into it, proceeded to fill it with the things (junk he has been keeping forever and will never use) from the office that should be a nursery by now, and topped it up with his dirty laundry. Of course, there are no doors on ripped apart closet, so our bedroom is a disgusting disaster zone due to his project. I’d take a picture, but I think he’d get mad at me!

My (awesome) plan: Get a lap-top. We can just use it wherever and wont need a designated computer area. Put the doors back on the closet and hide all the man’s shit treaures.

This is actually becoming a source of significant stress to me. We cannot start to set up the nursery until we get the computer out of it (though the man is supposedly on the verge of painting the room, right around the computer)…and I really really want the furniture in there already so I can start sorting and organzing things.

Oh well, in more news, I visited Chrissy today. Though I am sorry for the circumstances that brought her to Toronto, it was great to see her after over 2 years and finally meet her husband!! Again, lets all send *baby stay inside* prayers and vibes and wishes her way.

And, for your viwwing pleasure, The Girl last night..as Hannah Montana, of course!

Decorating Dilemma

Ugh, I cannot decide what to do about the nursery. Keep in mind I do like a cute, put-together nursery…but I am in no way, shape or form a decorating freak and will never have a room of mine in a magazine or all matchy-matchy. I am fully aware that the baby will not care what the nursery looks like (and may or may not even use it for some time) but since I am a social person who always has people over (or will when I am on maternity leave anyway) I would like it to be nice.

So, here is my dilemma. We have a light wood crib from the girl. We also have a matching change table/dresser…but my sister in law is still using it for our 3 year old neice. She will give it back if we want it back.

There is a full size light grey dresser already in the room. We would like to keep it is it is a good neutral piece in good condition for a girl or boy’s big-kid room one day…but it is heavy and will be a PITA to move, and we really have nowhere to store it for the next few years.

I cannot decide if we should lug it to the basement (which we are trying desperately to have less, not more stuff in) and get the dresser that matches the crib back, or just empty the dresser and leave it where it is (use a change pad on it) as the baby’s dresser.

I know the matching dresser and crib will look better…but would an unmatching dresser and crib look so bad???

Evolution of a room, or, what we’ve been busy with

Last Week

Now

Of course we still have some work to do, such as adding some wall decorations (but what goes with fuzzy turquoise and black zebra stripes?) and getting a new non-Princess lamp, but all in all the girl is happy with it. The cat as well. As for me,  I think it looks kinda like a Bordello.

The baby’s room will be the same colour, but about 2-3 shades lighter. Wer got one too many cans for the girl’s room, so it makes sense to just lighten it and use it.

P.S. When I sneeze, pee comes out. I felt like I needed to share that.
