Last night in my Ashtanga class, we spent a bit of time working on the transition from Bhuja pindasana to Bakasana (video here). It occurred to me then that I have not played with or practiced my beloved arm balances in a long time! I used to take some vinyasa and hatha classes that did them a lot, but currently almost all the yoga classes I take are Ashtanga primary…I do the occasional other class, but because my yoga studio is still so new, they tend to be very accessible classes but do not do arm balances. This morning, after about 30 minutes on the spin bike, I decided I was warm enough to try it out. I’m glad to say that I have not lost my ability to do cool party tricks! Seriously though, I just feel good about the fact that I have the focus, strength, balance and flexibility to keep this up.
