Yesterday was 1 year since I finally decided to get off a long plateau and commit a few months to getting to a healthy BMI. See:
I spent 3 months losing 20lbs, and have kept 15 of them off (the last 5 come and go!) for 9 months now. I’m so glad I did it. Even though I don’t look that much different…I feel so much better about myself and more confident now that I am a healthy BMI! I know it’s just a number, but it’s a number that always bothered me to be on the wrong side of.
Tonight is the last night of our family trip to Blue Mountain. We are having a fantastic trip and have done loads of swimming, hiking, walking and climbing. Good thing…because this is a great place to be gluten-free and I’ve enjoyed it! I’ve had gluten free and vegetarian poutine, grilled cheese, brownies, chocolate cake and penne over the past 4 days!
Being here has really made me appreciated the efforts I’ve made to be a fitter and healthier person. I have seen so many (mostly overweight) moms here sitting in the sidelines while their kids swim, hike, and climb mountains. I know 4 years ago that would have been me! No way I could have hiked through caves, swam for hours or climbed up this mountain:
Besides gaining the strength and energy to participate in those fun activities with my family, I’ve also gained the confidence to take some challenge with my fear of open heights and go on a gondola, cross a long suspension bridge, try a low ropes course, and jump into an air bag!
Today, somebody chastised me for being scared of heights and letting my kids know it! I disagree. I’m only getting better and my kids are learning that everybody has fears, that life is a process, and that we never stop growing!
